Perils of Ordering Carpet Online

By , On , In Carpet

Convenience is key in the life of a consumer, which is why more and more people choose to purchase online. It’s why there are so many more e-commerce websites emerging, and yes, even options in the flooring industry. However, there are products that should be seen in person, touched, and reviewed with a professional salesperson and installer, such as carpet.

Unless you are a carpet expert, you will want professional advice so you make the right choice the first time and protect your investment. While you may think you are saving money, you could be spending more by making the wrong decisions and having to replace your floor sooner than expected. For this purpose, we are sharing our tips on why you should purchase your carpet from a professional flooring retailer, like Nufloors.

Pre-Installation

Product Selection

There are many manufacturers and brands and it can be hard to know where to begin. That is where a professional salesperson will ask the right questions to understand your needs and style so the flooring you select can stand up to your household traffic and look good for years to come.

Properly Measuring

Unless you are carpeting a small, simple room, measuring is not as easy as 1, 2, 3. Because carpet comes in rolls, if it is a larger room, seaming is required. A professional will know where the seams will fall and how to properly account for them when measuring so they can be hidden. Stairs, closets, nooks, and crannies also present measuring challenges that a professional knows how to account for.

Freight & Delivery

Carpet rolls are heavy, meaning shipping and freight can quickly add up. Although you may think you are getting a steal of a deal – be aware, it may add up when you go to check-out. Due to the weight of the rolls, it is also important to think about how you will receive it and get it off of the truck as a forklift is required.

The other issue when ordering online is not viewing your product choice in person before hand. What if the product arrives and the colour isn’t as shown or the product is damaged? There is no warehouse person on hand to receive it first and inspect the carpet for damage. That will be the customer’s burden to bear.

Installation

Removal & Disposal of Old Flooring

This may be something as a homeowner you choose to do yourself, but complimentary disposal sure is a perk if you don’t have access to a truck or lack the time. Nufloors will take care of removing and disposing your old flooring and installation materials for you.

Sub-Floor Prep

A sound sub-floor is undeniably one of the most important parts impacting the longevity of your floors. But do you know what a sound sub-floor looks like? A professional flooring retailer will ensure your subfloor is in tiptop shape before installing your new floors. And if subfloor adjustments or replacement is needed, they will take care of this for you.

Accessories, Tools & Under Pad

There are a number of things that go into a professional carpet installation that not everyone may think of, such as, what under pad is required or best suited and what accessories are needed.

Just like a sound sub-floor, under pad is also one of the most important aspects to long lasting carpet. In fact, it is better to go with a more expensive under pad and less expensive carpet than it is to select a cheap under pad and splurge on carpet. There are so many options available it can be hard to know what you need for your installation.

A professional salesperson will know exactly what weight and thickness of under pad is required. They’ll also know what special features you need if you have a household with pets and/or children where spills often occur.

If you have two different types of flooring, carpet and luxury vinyl for example, you will need a transition strip where the two floors meet to ensure a completed and finished floor. Finally, there are a few other skills and equipment required that our professional installers have, like special tools and know how. Lining up the seams of a carpet with a pattern is not for the faint of heart and should be left to the professionals.

Post Installation

On-Going Support

When you purchase from a professional flooring retailer you will receive on-going support and peace of mind. If you have an issue arise down the road or have care and maintenance questions, we are there for you because we stand behind our products and installation.

Warranty

Avoid the headache of dealing directly with manufacturer’s warranty and claims. A professional flooring retailer has relationships with the brands representatives and will help manage these claims for you.

For most manufacturers, warranty is dependent on professional installation. If a professional installation is not done, you could be at risk of your warranty being void.

If you’re in the market for new flooring, don’t risk doing it alone! We have access to an in-house team of installation experts and are happy to help. Contact us today for a free estimate, or stop by one of our showrooms to speak to a flooring expert.
