Luxury vinyl is currently the fastest growing flooring category on the market. This flooring category is designed to replicate the timeless look of ceramic, natural stone or wood but at the same time is a very durable and comfortable surface for everyday living. Luxury vinyl flooring is available in a beautiful collection of colours and designs from traditional to modern to country. It is thicker than traditional vinyl and is so advanced using 3D and 4D printing technology that it can now offer very real visuals for wood, ceramic or stone, at a lower cost.
Luxury vinyl tile can be installed with or without grout for a convincing stone or ceramic look. Some examples of tile sizes would be 12″ x 12″, 12″ x 24″ or 16″ x 16″. You can even choose what is called a “mixed kit” which provides tiles in 3 different size formats, ie 8 tiles of each size: 16″ x 16″, 8″ x 8″, & 8″ x 16″ which creates a beautiful sophisticated floor design.
Luxury vinyl plank replicates the look of hardwood and is available in a multitude of plank lengths and widths, featuring bevelled edges and ends. Some examples of plank sizes would be 3″ x 36″ / 7″ x 36″ / 6″ x 48″ / 4.5″ x 48″ / 4″ x 36″. With today’s technology, these planks re-create the subtle textures found in wood grains and stone grooves, making them look like the real thing.
Luxury vinyl is water resistant making it the ideal choice for kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms or laundry rooms. A great choice for busy households with kids and pets or if you are looking for a low maintenance, high performing flooring option that looks beautiful.

Thickness in luxury vinyl flooring is not always an indication of better quality.
Focus on the layer, called the WEAR LAYER which is responsible for taking on the daily wear and tear of the floor. You will want a thick wear layer as this will determine how your floor will hold up to scuffing, scratches and stains. Usually, the thicker the layer, the more expensive the floor but also the longer the warranty and quite simply the longevity of the floor. Wear layer thickness is measured in mils (the thickness of a mil is about the same as a page in the telephone book).
Wear layers are typically 6 to 20 mil, but some offer up to a 40 mil layer.
