Tips to think about.

Pre-Work

Depending on the existing floor covering, there this could be an additional expense if removal of your old flooring is required. Also depending on the condition of your sub-floor, additional work may be needed.

Porous Product

Natural stone is very porous and is susceptible to staining and as a result, does require a regular sealing maintenance regime.

In-floor Heating

Consider installing an in-floor heating system when your natural stone flooring is being installed. In-floor heating is considered a premium heating method and will add to the resale value of your home.

Lasts a Lifetime

Natural Stone floors are one of the longest-lasting flooring products on the market today. Unlike other flooring which has to be replaced periodically, properly installed natural stone will last a lifetime and will add value to your home.

Subflooring

A proper subfloor is required so there is no movement when installing Natural Stone on wood substrates. Otherwise, the movement of a subfloor will cause cracking of natural stone or popping of grout. This applies also to concrete slabs where a proper membrane must be used to prevent cracking of natural stone tiles with the movement of the house during different seasons. Natural stone is heavy and the weight of this flooring material needs to be supported by a strong and stable subfloor. If considering natural stone as a flooring choice you’ll need to check on your home structure.

Installed by us.

You’ll receive your full Nufloors pre-installation guide that will outline everything you need to know regarding installation.

Paint

If you are planning to paint, wallpaper, or do any other remodeling in the room, try to do this before your flooring is installed. Keep extra paint to allow for post-installation touchups.

Move Furniture

Who is moving the furniture? Plan this in advance. Ensure to remove all fragile items from the room.

Remove your existing Floor

Make sure you know who is removing your existing flooring. Speak with Nufloors about this.

Check door clearances

Measure door clearances before you have your new flooring installed. If the new flooring is thicker than your existing floor, your door bottoms may rub. Plan in advance to have someone shave or saw each door so it does not drag.

When installing stone over concrete slabs or basements it is recommended to have a crack isolation membrane installed first. This will eliminate the concrete cracks from penetrating up through the tile. It there is no membrane installed, Nufloors will not warranty cracking tile over concrete.

Is a sub-floor needed?

A proper subfloor is required so there is no movement when installing natural stone tiles. Otherwise, the movement of a subfloor will cause cracking of tile or popping of grout.

Nufloors will not warranty the floor over adverse subfloor conditions, ie: particle board, vinyl composite tile, vinyl flooring or painted concrete floor.
