Affordable – A great alternative for homeowners who don’t want to install hardwood due to cost. Luxury vinyl mirrors hardwood in looks.

    Considerations

It’s a replication – It’s not actually real tile or hardwood. It may not bring the same value to your home in resale a hardwood floor would.

It may scratch – Luxury vinyl tile replicates ceramic, stone or slate. As it’s softer, it may scratch more easily.

Inspired by wood flooring, vinyl plank can be installed in areas in your home where hardwood cannot.

Tips to think about.

Durability

Luxury vinyl is durable and come with scratch, stain and wear performance options.

Pet Friendly

If you have furry family members in your home, luxury vinyl is a great choice.   Pet accidents from dogs and cats cleanup is easy.

Scratches Show

Because luxury vinyl tile is softer than “real” tile, stone or slate, it may scratch more easily. But this is a compromise for the warmth of the product compared to tile.

Pre Work

Depending on the existing floor covering, there this could be an additional expense if removal of your old flooring is required. Also depending on the condition of your sub-floor, additional work may be needed.

Luxury Vinyl Plank sizing

Luxury vinyl plank replicates the look of hardwood and is available in a multitude of plank lengths and widths, featuring bevelled edges and ends.  Planks typically are 60”,  48” or 36” in length, with widths ranging from 7 3/4”, 6”, and 5”.  Plank vinyl floor also tends to have deeper embossing and better graphics, rendering it a closer simulation of wood and stone than previous iterations of vinyl flooring.

Installed by us.

You’ll receive your Nufloors pre-installation guide that will outline everything you need to know regarding installation.

Paint

If you are planning to paint, wallpaper, or do any other remodeling in the room, try to do this before your flooring is installed.  Keep extra paint to allow for post-installation touchups.

Move Furniture

Who is moving the furniture?  Plan this in advance.  Ensure to remove all fragile items from the room.

Remove your existing Floor

Make sure you know who is removing your existing flooring.  Speak with Nufloors about this.

Check door clearances

Measure door clearances before you have your new flooring installed.  If the new flooring is thicker than your existing floor, your door bottoms may rub.  Plan in advance to have someone shave or saw each door so it does not drag.

What sizing does luxury vinyl tile come in?

Luxury vinyl tile can be installed with or without grout for a convincing stone or ceramic look. Some examples of tile sizes would be 12″ x 12″, 12″ x 24″ or 16″ x 16″. You can even choose what is called a “mixed kit” which provides tiles in 3 different size formats, ie 8 tiles of each size: 16″ x 16″, 8″ x 8″, & 8″ x 16″ which creates a beautifully sophisticated floor design.

What sizing does luxury vinyl plank come in?

Luxury vinyl plank replicates the look of hardwood and is available in a multitude of plank lengths and widths, featuring bevelled edges and ends. Some examples of plank sizes would be 3″ x 36″ / 7″ x 36″ / 6″ x 48″ / 4.5″ x 48″ / 4″ x 36″. With today’s technology, these planks re-create the subtle textures found in wood grains and stone grooves, making them look like the real thing.

Does thickness matter when buying luxury vinyl?

Thickness in luxury vinyl flooring is not always an indication of better quality.

Focus on the layer called the WEAR LAYER which is responsible for taking on the daily wear and tear of the floor. You will want a thick wear layer as this will determine how your floor will hold up to scuffing, scratches and stains. Usually, the thicker the layer, the more expensive the floor but also the longer the warranty and quite simply the longevity of the floor. Wear layer thickness is measured in mils (the thickness of a mil is about the same as a page in the telephone book).
Wear layers are typically 6 to 20 mil, but some offer up to a 40 mil layer.

What’s the difference between luxury vinyl and sheet vinyl?

Sheet vinyl is one large roll of vinyl compared to luxury vinyl which is available in plank or tile format.

Why is vinyl flooring also called “resilient flooring?”

“Resilient flooring” is a term used for vinyl flooring. The terms vinyl and resilient flooring are often used interchangeably.

Will my dog’s nails scratch vinyl flooring?

Vinyl Flooring has a protective wear layer to help prevent scratches. The thicker the wear layer, the more protection you will have. Keep in mind though that no vinyl floor is 100% scratch proof. Try to keep the dog’s nails trimmed to help prevent scratches.

What does the thickness and the wear layer thickness mean?

Vinyl flooring is measured in two thicknesses: Total product and wear layer. Total product thickness, measured in millimeters, determines how well the vinyl hides subfloor imperfections. Total wear layer thickness, also measured in millimeters, determines the vinyl floors durability.

Can I use rugs or mats on my vinyl floor?

Yes, if they are labeled “colourfast” by the manufacturer. Non-staining, polypropylene-backed mats or woven rugs are best. Not recommended is the use of rubber or latex-backed mats because the chemical (antioxidant) used to keep the backing from becoming brittle can permanently stain your floor.
